Russia threatens that UK sanctions will have repercussions
“Attacks on leading Russian oil and gas companies are destabilizing global energy markets and ultimately impacting consumers around the world, including ordinary Britons and local businesses,” the embassy stated.
The embassy further argued that the sanctions would exacerbate energy insecurity in the Global South.
“Contrary to the loud assurances of British leaders, these restrictions will have no impact on Russian foreign policy,” it added. “It’s high time London realized that attempts to blackmail our country and to speak to us in the language of sanctions and threats are senseless and futile.”
It also suggested that the UK’s measures reflect “the growing desperation of the British establishment” amid the “deteriorating position” of Ukrainian forces on the battlefield.
The statement warned that sanction pressure “only complicates peaceful dialogue and leads to further escalation,” emphasizing that Russia remains committed to defending its national interests and maintaining economic stability.
Earlier on Wednesday, the UK government unveiled a new round of sanctions targeting Rosneft, Lukoil, multiple banks, and dozens of tankers and companies from China, the UAE, India, Thailand, and Singapore accused of facilitating the transport of Russian oil.
These measures form part of London’s ongoing strategy to curb Russia’s energy revenues amid the conflict in Ukraine.
